Shiny Things: Tom Ford Special Edition Eyewear

Tom Ford Eye wear Men's I have been looking for a new pair of glasses to replace or at least spell my current Rayban Wayfarers and I think I found them. Tom Ford has created two Special Edition Frames (one for men and one for women)  for Fall/Winter 2012; each pair comes in two different styles and is “inspired by the enduring elegance of 1950s eyewear”. The Tom Ford Special Edition frames are truly the epitome of luxury; each is made of the finest quality gold-plated metal with precious water buffalo horn on the front and the temple tips.  I love this frame, it’s  classic and timeless.

The frames and their leather case are presented in a luxurious, Bakelite box with a soft brown lining; it includes a certificate of authenticity and a special cleansing cream and chamois cloth to care for the water buffalo horn. As gorgeous as these frames are the do come with a fairly hefty price tag; they cost “$2,950 in Tom Ford boutiques and select luxury department stores”. What do you think? Is $2950 too much for a pair of glasses? Did Tom Ford push it a little too much this time?
